The presentation will focus on microscopic tools that allow us to study the function of mammalian brains on a sub-cellular level. Multi-photon microscopy allows the investigation of the neurovascular unit through cranial windows in animal models. The depth of imaging with this technology is limited mainly to the cortex making a case for the use of endoscopes. I will introduce a hair-thin endoscope built from a multi-mode optical fibre which can be used with advanced wavefront shaping technologies for in vivo microscopic imaging throughout the whole depth of the mouse brain.
